Well that all depends on what you want to shoot with it and what lens you’re looking at. Nikon make a nice 70-300mm VR lens which works very well as an all-rounder. F-stio changes depending on how much zoom you use which changes the depth of field.
Interesting comment. I checked it out. One web side states CCD sensors are of higher quality and more pixels. While CMOS much less expensive and almost as good as CCD.
lionthroupe: no you can not see effects through the viewfinder as it comes straight from the lens, you can see through through the lens when the camera is off

I think the D40 is a much better camera but the A200 is still good i just like the D40 more

I read that they are mostly the same image wise, but cmos has better battery management, and faster speed

Resolution matters only when you want to make poster size prints. People with high resolution cameras will brag but you will have a Nikon SLR.
